Usha Vance gets candid about pregnancy struggles ā teases whether baby #4 Is on the way

āNever say never.āĀ Thatās the phrase Second LadyĀ Usha VanceĀ chose when asked whether another little one could be on the way, possibly making history with the first baby born to a sitting U.S. vice president.
The 39-year-old wife of Vice PresidentĀ J.D. VanceĀ opened up in a new interview withĀ Citizen McCain, the YouTube show hosted byĀ Meghan McCain, about the ups, downs, and unexpected joys of motherhood. And the reality of managing family life alongside a high-powered legal career.
āWeāll See Where That Leadsā
Usha and J.D. are already proud parents toĀ three children:Ā Ewan, 8,Ā Vivek, 5, andĀ Mirabel, 3. But during the interview, the second lady hinted that the Vance householdĀ mightĀ not be done growing.
āI just liked having the two kids so much that I think I ended up being the driver for three, which really surprised both of us,āĀ she said with a smile.Ā āAnd now weāre at three and Iām feeling pretty good about this⦠sometimes he thinks he might like to have a fourth, but weāll see.ā
The couple met and married after studying atĀ Yale Law School, and while they always knew children were in their future, the number was undecided. Usha grew up with just one sibling, and J.D. primarily with his sister.Ā āI thought maybe I would have two kids, and I would think Iām done, this is good,āĀ she explained. But life had other plans.
From Law Clerk to Mom of Three
McCain, 40, surprised Vance during their conversation by revealing she was pregnant with her third child. Vance, visibly excited, offered heartfelt congratulations and reflected on the sibling dynamics in her own home.
āWhat Iāve really enjoyed about three kids is that itās just enough for them to be kind of a pack,āĀ she said.Ā āThe oldest will take care of the youngest.Ā And the youngest is so motivated to be like the older two that sheās basically self-sufficient.ā
Pregnancy, Anemia, and a Supreme Court Clerkship
Both McCain and Vance opened up aboutĀ pregnancy challenges, with Usha sharing that she experiencedĀ anemiaĀ during all three of her pregnancies.
āIt just makes you so tired, and youāre already kind of tired,āĀ she said.Ā āEspecially when we were having our third child, I was completely exhausted because I had a trial right before.ā
The exhaustion, she explained, turned out to be a sort of test run for parenting, helping her prepare mentally and emotionally for the journey ahead.
Her most grueling transition came after her first son,Ā Ewan, was born, justĀ seven weeksĀ before she started a prestigiousĀ Supreme Court clerkshipĀ with Chief JusticeĀ John Roberts.
A Glimpse Into the Second Ladyās Life
While she keeps a low profile compared to her husband, Usha Vanceās reflections paint a portrait of resilience, wit, and warmth. Sheās balancing motherhood, ambition, and a deep sense of purpose.
No vice president has ever had a baby while in office, but if Ushaās words are any hint,Ā history could still be in the making.
